  Sexual Misconduct Alleged against Priest

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Raleigh bishop Michael Burbidge has suspended the priestly faculties of retired pastor Kenneth R. Parker after allegations of alleged sexual misconduct came to light.

The allegations involving a minor date back to the 1980s.

The Diocese said it has finished a preliminary investigation into the allegations and has reported the matter to the North Carolina Conference of District Attorneys as well as sent it to a higher internal judicial body for further review.

Parker, 73, was ordained in 1965. He retired in 1993. During his time as a priest, he served as a pastor in Tarboro in the 1970s and as a pastor in Garner in the mid 1980s. He was serving as a pastor in Newton Grove during the time of the alleged misconduct. In his retirement, he has sometimes filled in for pastors who were on vacation.
