Father Paul Schnacky, a Diocese of Rochester Catholic priest from Hornell, has been relieved of his duties because of allegations of improper contact with minors.

In a statement issued late Sunday, the Diocese announced that it is investigating a complaint alleging Schnacky had improper conduct with minors while serving as a priest in the 1970s.

According to the statement, the results of an investigation were presented to the Diocesan Review Board, which advises Bishop Matthew Clark.

Schnacky was serving as an associate pastor at St. Philip Neri, in Rochester, at the time of the allegations. He has been relieved of his duties and is prohibited from exercising public ministry.

Diocese spokesperson Doug Mandelaro said, “We won’t comment beyond that” when contacted by The Tribune for further details.

To report a case of possible sexual abuse and to receive help and guidance from the Diocese, victims are encouraged to contact the Victims' Assistance Coordinator, Barbara Pedeville at (585) 328-3228, ext. 1215; by e-mail at pedeville@dor.org or U.S. mail to 1150 Buffalo Road, Rochester, N.Y. 14624.
