Representatives from the Dodge City Diocese provided information about one priest — John Haberthier — who had allegations of abuse made against him. The Diocese in 2006 disclosed information about the allegations to the public, though did not provide further information about a resolution to the investigation.

The Diocese declined to answer questions about any other cases of abuse. Father Bob Schremmer, diocese vicar general, said: "That's the only case we have information to release to the public."

The Diocese declined a request for an interview, and did not respond to a certified letter sent in November requesting more information.

Case:

John Haberthier: Text of letter sent to parishioners in December 2006. Provided by the Dodge City Diocese:

"The Diocese of Dodge City has been informed of an allegation of sexual misconduct against Reverend John Haberthier, a retired priest of the Diocese of Dodge City.

"If you were abused by Father Haberthier or any other Church personnel, we urge you to contact the chairperson of the diocesan Review Board. His name and contact information may be found in your Sunday Bulletin. You may certainly contact your local police agency as soon as possible.

"If you know of anyone who may have been the subject of abuse by Father Haberthier or any other Church personnel, please encourage them to do likewise.

"Please know that Bishop Gilmore holds all those affected by any form of abuse, as well as their families in his prayer and concern."

The Dodge City Diocese reported in its newsletter that Habertier died in December 2009 at age 87.

According to the Diocese, Father Haberthier served at:

• Sacred Heart in Dodge City from August 1950 to August 1952.
