Just days after a new Catholic bishop was installed in Springfield, Illinois, clergy sex abuse victims are prodding him to disclose the whereabouts of an accused predator priest who got national attention last fall. Leaders of the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAP), are writing to Bishop Thomas Paprocki about the Rev. Henry Willenborg. Willenborg, who belongs to the St. Louis-based Franciscan order, was suspended from ministry over allegations that he molested a Quincy, IL. teenage girl years ago. He’s also admitted breaking his vows of celibacy with Pat Bond of O’Fallon, Mo. with whom he conceived a son and whom he urged to have an abortion. A church probe into the charges against Willenborg continues, though SNAP is pushing for a prompt resolution of it. Meanwhile, last weekend, Bond, whose experiences with Willenborg were described in a page-one New York Times story and on Anderson Cooper’s program, will be in Chicago, attending SNAP’s annual national conference.
