A priest who has tackled issues surrounding clergy sexual abuse will be bringing his message to Vernon.

Father Thomas Doyle will take part in the Loran Lecture Series Sept. 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the Vernon Performing Arts Centre.

In 1985, he co-authored the now-famous Doyle/Mouton Report, in which he warned American Catholic bishops of the scope of clergy sexual abuse.

To date, Doyle has testified in more than 500 cases regarding the legal liability of the church.

"Everywhere he goes, audiences leave auditoriums more deeply aware of the need to protect children and more broadly committed to doing something about it," said Calvin White, who is helping with publicity for the lecture.

Shuswap resident Gerree Loran launched the lecture series last year in honour of her late husband Hugo, who was a science teacher in Banff.
