Belgium Clerical Sex Abuse Case in Doubt

An investigation into clerical sex abuse in Belgium has today been thrown into doubt.

A court there has ruled that police raids conducted as part of the inquiry into abuse allegations and their subsequent cover-up by the Catholic church, were illegal.

The ruling means prosecutors must now hand back documents taken from the home of the former archbishop of Belgium, Cardinal Godfried Danneels, and other evidence gathered from church offices during raids in June.
