An 88-year-old Roman Catholic priest at the centre of a sex abuse scandal in Windsor has been charged with the sexual assault of a teenaged student at Toronto's St. Michael's College more than a half century ago.

William Hodgson Marshall was arrested by Toronto police on Wednesday and charged with two counts of indecent assault.

Police allege that, during the fall of 1953, the accused was coaching an afterschool basketball program and asked a 15-year-old male student to come into a private room at the school. Police say the boy was then sexually assaulted.

Marshall is scheduled to appear in a Toronto court on November 3.

Police believe there may be more victims.

In Windsor, Marshall is facing one count of sexual assault and five counts of indecent assault for incidents in the 1950s and the 1980s.
