A former Sioux City Catholic priest is accused of sexually assaulting a young girl from 1968 to 1970.

A lawsuit has been filed by Nancy Prince who now lives in Texas. She accuses Father Nicholas J. Ruba of sexual assault and other forms of abuse.

The suit alleges the abuse happened during a two year period when Ruba was at Saint Michael's Parish.

The suit also accuses the Sioux City Diocese and Ruba of conspiring to keep secret her abuse and the abuse of other children.

Prince is asking for a jury trial and that the diocese and Ruba compensate her for the physical and emotional damages she has experienced.

The Sioux City Diocese says it first received a report of the alleged abuse in the spring of 2006. An internal investigation was undertaken and the county attorney was notified.

The diocese says the victim was unwilling to provide a written statement, so it felt she did not wish to make a formal complaint.

The diocese also notes that Monsignor Ruba has also denied the charges.
