Rome - Dozens of sexual abuse victims on Sunday demanded that the pope take firmer action against the priests who committed the abuse during a demonstration near the Vatican in Rome.

'Hands off our children' and 'Church without abuse' the demonstrators chanted at the protest, organized by US victims' organization Survivors Voice, on the Castel Sant'Angelo. Italian victims also took part.

They claim Pope Benedict XVI has not done enough to help abuse victims or implement its promised change in approach to handling abuse cases.

When Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi approached the group to offer his solidarity he was sworn at, Italian media reported.
