Former priest Norbert Maday.

OSHKOSH - A trial date has been set - again - for a former priest the state wants committed as a sexual predator.

Norbert Maday, 72, was convicted of sexually assaulting young boys in Oshkosh in 1994. His prison sentence ended in 2007, but he is still being confined because prosecutors want to use a Wisconsin law designating a previous offender as a "sexual predator." Such a designation would require him to stay at a secure mental institution for treatment.

The state filed the case more than three years ago. At a hearing Monday, a trial date of Sept. 12, 2011 trial date was scheduled. It's at least the fourth trial date set in the case. In these cases, both sides usually call experts to testify about a defendant's potential risk to re-offend.

Maday was convicted of two counts of second-degree sexual assault on June 8, 1994. He was defrocked by the Vatican in 2007.
