A priest has been placed on administrative leave after an investigation by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rochester into allegations of sexual abuse of a minor dating back more than 30 years.

The diocese, in a written statement, said the allegations against the Rev. Dennis Shaw were "deemed credible."

He is accused of abusing a minor in the late 1970s while he was at the now-closed St. Francis of Assisi Church.

He most recently served at Holy Family Church in Auburn.

Shaw has been placed on administrative leave and his priestly faculties have been withdrawn.

He was ordained in 1974 and served in several parishes, including Blessed Sacrament, St. Michael and Our Lady of Mount Carmel churches in Rochester.
