Statement by Joelle Casteix of Newport Beach, SNAP Western Regional Director, (949) 322-7434 cell

We were saddened, but not surprised, to discover that another priest in the Orange Diocese, Fr. Timothy Ramaekers, has been accused of child sex abuse. We were even more saddened to discover that the Diocese of Orange did not release this information to the public, so that families in all of the parishes where Ramaekers worked could find information, help and healing.

Our heart goes out the alleged victim in the case. We salute him for his bravery in using the time-tested civil justice system to seek accountability. We also know that learning that a trusted and loved priest has been accused of abuse is upsetting to parishioners. We ask that Catholics remain open minded, pray for all parties involved, and talk to anyone who may have suspected, experienced or witnessed child sex abuse by Fr. Ramaekers - or any adult in a position of trust - to inform law enforcement immediately, not the church.
