The Diocese of Allentown informed Scranton Diocesan officials that an allegation of sexual abuse of a minor was made against Father Angelus Ferrar, who is a monk with the Melkite Greek-Catholic Eparchy of Newton. The allegation is said to have taken place at the Our Lady of Solitude Cloister and Retreat, Warren Center, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, which is within the boundaries of the Eparchy of Newton. The victim was reported to be a minor from the Diocese of Allentown. Neither Father Ferrar nor the Our Lady of Solitude Cloister and Retreat are associated or affiliated with the Diocese of Scranton. Scranton Diocesan officials did confirm that the Eparchy of Newton and the Diocese of Allentown reported the allegation to the District Attorney of Susquehanna County (where the allegation occurred); the District Attorney of Berks County (where the victim resides); and to the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare.
