A local priest has been placed on administrative leave after an allegation of sexual abuse against a minor dating to the 1960s was deemed credible by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rochester.

The Rev. Vincent Panepinto, who most recently was a sacramental minister at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini parish in Rochester, can no longer exercise public ministry and his priestly faculties have been withdrawn, according to a release on the diocese's website.

Panepinto was ordained a priest in 1967 and served at the former St. Philip Neri parish in Rochester. He also worked at St. Michael's in Rochester, at several state prisons and at Our Lady of Mercy High School. He was spiritual director at Becket Hall discernment house and pastor of the former City East parishes.
