A news conference has been scheduled for Monday in front of the Federico Degetau Federal Building in San Juan, Puerto Rico, to announce a new lawsuit against a St. John’s Abbey monk and the Order of St. Benedict on behalf of a Puerto Rican man.

The man is alleging that he was sexually abused by the Rev. Raymond Francisco Schulte at the San Antonio Abad boarding school in Humacao in the late 1970s, when the man was a young teenager, according to the man’s attorney, Jeff Anderson. At the time of the alleged abuse, the boarding school was operated and staffed by priests and brothers of the Order of St. Benedict.

Because the allegations are from the 1970s, the lawsuit might not be filed within the statute of limitations, said Mike Ford, attorney for the Order of St. Benedict. He was researching Puerto Rican law on the issue, he said.
