Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Today it is my sad duty to inform you that we have received a report of sexual misconduct by a diocesan priest. The report alleges an inappropriate telephone conversaton between Fr. Michael Nowak and a minor female last week that included sexually explicit language. No physical contact was reported.

After the phone call took place, the parents of the minor contacted the Kenosha Police. The police have initiated an investigation. The Archdiocese of Milwaukee's victim assistance coordinator was also contacted.

Upon learning of this allegation I placed Fr. Nowak on administrative leave and restricted him from ministry pending the outcome of an investigaton. If civil authorities do not pursue charges, an independent archdiocesan investigation will ensue and a report will be delivered to the Diocesan Review Board. The Review Board will issue a recommendation to me, based upon the findings of its investigation.

In Fr. Nowak's absence, I have assigned Fr. Dominic Thomas, MCBS, as the temportary adminsitrator of St. Therese. He will be responsible for parish operations until further notice.

I felt it was important for you to hear about this incident. I promise to update you fully as additional ifnromation becomes available.

Please pray for all involved and be assured of my own prayers for you and the St. Therese faith community.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

[signature]

Most Reverend Jerome E. Listecki

Archbishop of Milwaukee
