A Franklin priest has been charged with sexually assaulting a 15 year-old-girl.

It was at a hotel in La Crosse Monday night where the girl said Father David Szatkowski drunkenly grabbed her breast.

The 37-year-old Szatkowski serves at the Sacred Heart School of Theology in Hales Corners.

According to the criminal complaint, the young girl said Szatkowski approached her and her friends, when she gave him a high five, that’s when he became very touchy and told the group of girls he was a lawyer.

The next day La Crosse Police tracked down Szatkowski at a Canon Law conference using a picture the girls took on a cell phone Monday night.

"I have to say my first reaction was one of shock to think that this priest was so brazen as to assault a child out in public," John Pilmaier, Wisconsin Director of the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, said.

In a short interview with police, Szatkowski denied the accusations by the girls, said he wasn't drunk, and after further questioning, asked for a lawyer and ended the interview.

He has since resigned from Sacred Heart pending the investigation.

Sacred Heart would not comment on the issue.

Szkowski was released from jail and is awaiting his next court appearance later this month.
