Wisconsin Priest Charged with Sexual Assault of Teenage Girl

August 11, 2011

A Wisconsin priest is accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl while he was in La Crosse for a canon law conference.

A criminal complaint says the Rev. David Szatkowski, of Franklin, groped the 15-year-old girl outside a downtown hotel late Monday or early Tuesday.

The girl told police a drunken man approached her and her friends, put his arms around her and groped her. One of her friends took a picture of the man on a cellphone. Police later identified the man as Szatkowski.

The 37-year-old priest is charged in La Crosse County with second-degree sexual assault of a child younger than 16. Szatkowski has been released on a signature bond.

The La Crosse Tribune says Szatkowski has resigned from the Sacred Heart School of Theology in Franklin.
