A Detroit priest is accused to sexually assaulting a boy under the age of 18 in Douglas County.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Father Richard James Kurtz, 67, sexually assaulted a boy in 2001 in Douglas County. Kurtz worked as a chemistry teacher at the University of Detroit High School in Detroit at the time of the alleged assault.

In June 2011, the Chicago-Detroit Province notified Douglas County of the alleged crimes once they found out they were there during the alleged assault. It is unknown at this time why they were in Douglas County. It appears as of right now that the assaults had nothing to do with a local church.

A warrant was issued for Kurtz's arrest on Nov. 18, and he was arrested on Monday in Chicago. He is charged with sexual assault on a child by one in position of trust and attempted sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust.

The investigation is still ongoing.
