Despite a decade of promises to be "open" about child sex crimes, New York Catholic officials have kept silent for nine months about child porn on an assistant principal's school computer.

Such callous and irresponsible secrecy and delay gives ample time for corrupt church and school officials to intimidate victims, threaten whistleblowers, discredit witnesses, fabricate alibis, and destroy evidence.

Like Yogi Berra said, it's déjà vu all over again. This is eerily similar to, and perhaps worse than, the stunning recklessness and deceit in Kansas City, where top Catholic officials kept silent this year about a priest's child porn photos – hundreds of them – for at least five months.

These two cases - along with equally disturbing ones in Joliet Illinois and Philadelphia PA – prove again that little if any real reform has taken place in the Catholic hierarchy.

When caught doing wrong, wrong doers have two options. Stop doing wrong. Or work harder and smarter to conceal wrongdoing. Obviously, many Catholic officials are choosing the latter.

We hope that every single person who has seen, suspected or suffered Brother Lawrence Gordon's crimes will come forward, call police, expose wrongdoers, protect kids and start healing.
