An Omaha priest is under investigation by both the police and the Archdiocese after a Carter Lake man accused that priest of sexual abuse.

Rev. Al Salanitro told parishioners in a Dec. 15 letter: "I deny ever having sexually abused this individual."

The 52-year-old Salanitro is on leave pending the investigation.

The Archdiocese of Omaha issued a news release stating a Carter Lake man accused Salanitro of allegedly sexually abusing him between 1991-1994.

Salanitro is currently pastor at St. Bernadette Parish in Bellevue. At the time of the allegations, Salanitro was a priest at Holy Cross. The Archdiocese said the accuser was not a member of that church.

Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine said he received a letter from the Archdiocese concerning the allegations. Kleine said Friday the Omaha Police Department has started it's investigation.
