What Cardinal Sean Brady previously said about “resigning”:
In December 2009 in the wake of the publication of the Murphy Report into child abuse in the archdiocese of Dublin, Cardinal Sean Brady was interviewed by RTE’s Northern editor Tommie Gorman:
Gorman asked: “If you personally – and let’s boil it down to how you personally would react – if you personally were made aware that through your lack of management skills or through other deficiencies that children had been abused because of that – that you had contributed in any way to that situation – what would you personally do?”
Cardinal Brady replied: “Well, I would remember of course that the abuse of children is a very serious crime in civil and canon law, the cause of a very grave sin. And if I found myself in a situation where I was aware that my failure to act had allowed or meant that other children were abused, then I think I would resign.”
