Prior to the October meeting of the Montini Catholic High School Board of Directors, the executive committee will meet to discuss Rev. James Nowak’s position on the board, said James Segredo, president of the school.

Last week, Nowak was placed on temporary administrative leave after allegations were made that he sexually abused a minor more than 25 years ago.

Since the Board of Directors was formed at Montini Catholic in the mid 1990s, Nowak has served in an advisory capacity, said Segredo.

As an advisory member, he does not have an official vote.

The responsibilities of the board are to oversee the direction of the school and its members do not have any interaction with students, he said.

The board of 23 elected members meets four times a year, and before the October meeting, members of the executive committee will meet to review the incident and a vote will likely be made on whether Nowak will remain on the board, Segredo said.

In the meantime, parents of the school have been contacted, he said.

“I want to emphasize that the board does not have any interaction with the students,” he said. “Fr. Jim’s name is known only as a member of our board, not interacting with our students.”
