Father Ron Léger is set to be released from custody.

Judge Cynthia Devine noted a trial may be some time away.

Convicted sex offender Father Ron Léger has been granted bail after being arrested on additional charges.

Judge Cynthia Devine ruled he could be released from custody on a $1,000 bond and a $10,000 surety provided by Clerics of Saint Viator.

Léger was arrested in October on eight new charges involving four men. He is currently serving out time for his conviction in 2015.

In 2015, the former head of Holy Family Parish priest and founder of Teen Stop Jeunesse, was convicted of sexual offences against three males and was later handed a two year sentence.

The charges date back to a series of incidents that occurred between 1984 and 2004.

Judge Devine noted that in light of new charges the parole board may decide to revoke Léger's day parole.

Shortly after pleading guilty to the earlier charges last year, Léger was stripped of his rights to represent the ministry by the Archdiocese of St. Boniface.

Léger now returns to the halfway house set out by the parole board. He is not allowed to have contact with the men who have pressed charges against him.

The judge ordered Léger to stay 200 metres away from them, including their homes, work and places of worship.

Léger is barred from contacting anyone 18 or under. His lawyer Saul Simmonds declined comment.

A trial date has not yet been set.
