A registered sex offender is behind bars for distributing child porn. Investigators said it all happened while he was working and living at an Albuquerque church.

Sandia Valley Nazarene Church in the South Valley is also home to convicted sex offender, Randal Paul.

According to a criminal complaint, Paul and his wife moved from California to Albuquerque in 2011 to live and volunteer at the church.

The complaint said Paul did maintenance and even helped prepare sermons.

Paul had been convicted of aggravated sexual abuse and lewd acts with a minor about 20 years ago.

Friday though, Paul was arrested again. This time for child porn.

The criminal complaint said Paul had been part of a child porn website, looking at pictures and even writing vulgar comments about young girls.

Also in the complaint, investigators said they found dozens of child porn images on Paulís laptop, along with crude emails to people about children.

KRQE News 13 went to the Sandia Valley Nazarene Church Friday. A woman answered the church office door and then slammed it shut.

Minutes later, an SUV was seen pulling out of the church lot.

Another woman at the church confirmed Paul did live there, but said to talk with their pastor who was out of town.

The woman said the pastor, Pete Myers, would call. He did not immediately get back to KRQE News 13 Friday.

Paul is expected to be in federal court Monday.

If convicted, he faces a minimum of 20 hours in jail up to life, because of his previous convictions.
