The parents of a boy who claims he was sexually abused by a priest have reached an agreement with the Milwaukee Catholic Archdiocese to avert legal proceedings, a lawyer for the archdiocese said Friday.

T. Michael Bolger said the agreement is between the archdiocese, Mother of Good Counsel Parish and the Society of the Divine Savior, the group of priests the Rev. Dennis Pecore belonged to.

Pecore has been charged with second-degree sexual assault. He is accused of sexually abusing the boy when he was a pupil at the parish school and has pleaded innocent.

His case is pending before Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Janine Geske.

Bolger said he could not reveal details of the agreement but said it averted legal proceedings in the matter. Two lawsuits in the alleged sexual assault are curently pending.

Bolger said his clients wanted to make sure "the young boy involved was recompensed and adequatelytaken care of so he wouldn't have to go through the agony of a trial. We have a great deal of compassion for all involved."
