  The Rev. Carl E. Wachter

Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial for the Rev. Carl E. Wachter, a former pastor of Holy Cross Church in Portland, will be at noon Friday in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.

A vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Maryville Nursing Home in Beaverton.

The Rev. Wachter died of heart disease Monday in a Beaverton care center. He was 78.

He was born Jan. 27, 1913, in Litchville, N.D. He attended St. Edward Seminary and was ordained a priest in 1939. The Rev. Wachter was an associate pastor at St. Rose Church in Monroe and at St. John the Baptist Church in Milwaukie before being appointed pastor of St. Edward Church in Lebanon.

The Rev. Wachter went on to serve at several Oregon churches, including St. Monica Church in Coos Bay, St. John the Baptist Church in Milwaukie and Holy Cross Church in Portland. He retired in 1983.

Survivors include his sisters, Mary Kerber of Salem and Josephine Dugger of Blanchard, Okla.

Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
