PRIEST BACK: A priest removed in January from a parish after being named in a civil suit alleging sexual misconduct with a minor has been reinstated by Bishop Joseph L. Imesch of the Diocese of Joliet.

The Rev. David Stalzer was returned to his position as pastor of St. Mary Nativity parish in Joliet earlier this month.

In a statement, Imesch said he took the action after consulting members of a committee rewriting the diocese's sexual-abuse policy.

Imesch said that Stalzer, 45, will "be under supervision until this matter is settled" and that Stalzer's "contact with youngsters will be limited to sacramental ministry."

Stalzer is accused in a civil suit of sexual misconduct with a minor 12 years ago. Imesch said he was "making no judgment on the outcome of pending litigation" with his action.
