  Downstate Suit Cites Priest Abuse

Chicago Sun-Times
November 10, 1993

Five former parochial school students have filed a lawsuit accusing a parish priest of sexually abusing them in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

The lawsuit, filed in Sangamon County Circuit Court on Monday, contends that the Rev. Joseph Havey ordered the youths to perform sexual, masochistic abuse on him "to cleanse me of my sins."

Havey, 49, married and no longer a Roman Catholic priest, declined to comment Tuesday. The boys, now in their late 20s, weren't identified by their real names.
