Police on Tuesday arrested a former California priest, now living in Chicago, who was wanted on charges that he allegedly molested 17 children in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Rev. Gary Timmons, 56, was arrested about 7 p.m. at his South Side home by Chicago and Sonoma County, Calif., police, said Wentworth Area Sgt. Daniel Fitzgerald.

The acts may have spanned more than 20 years with victims as young as 7 years old, authorities said.

Timmons had moved to Chicago in September and was attending the Institute for Spiritual Leadership, 4906 S. Greenwood Ave., where he also resided, police said.
