Bishop Dorsey No Longer a Defendant in Pagni Suit

Orlando Sentinel (Florida)
January 30, 1996

Orlando Catholic Bishop Norbert Dorsey has been dropped as a defendant in a civil suit against Thomas Pagni, an ex-priest who pleaded no contest earlier this month to 13 criminal charges of sexual acts with children.

Circuit Court Judge J. Preston Silvernail, who is hearing the civil case in Brevard County, said in his ruling that Dorsey had not been assigned to the Orlando diocese at the time the acts alleged in the civil suit took place.

Pagni's victims charge in the suit that church officials knew of the abuse and did not make it public. The civil case against retired Bishop Thomas J. Grady and Father Nicholas King continues.

Pagni, 45, is scheduled to be sentenced in criminal court Feb. 21.
