Judge Oks Abuse Trial Vs. Ex-Priest

Chicago Sun-Times
November 6, 1996

A circuit judge has ruled the case of a Godfrey woman who accused a former priest of sexually abusing her should go to trial.

The defendant, Robert Dodd, 58, is now an attorney and a former mayor of Champaign.

Judge David Herndon of Madison County on Oct. 29 denied a motion to dismiss the lawsuit brought in 1994 by Carol Eason.

Eason, 44, is suing Dodd and the Catholic Diocese of Springfield, where he used to be a priest, for sexual abuse she claims to have suffered over a period of years starting in 1966 when she was 14.

Dodd left the priesthood in 1971 and later married.
