  Bradford Priest Made a Monsignor

Erie Times-News (PA)
June 27, 1997

The Rev. H. Desmond McGee, who was dismissed last week from a lawsuit in which he was accused of raping a student, has been promoted to monsignor, Bishop Donald W. Trautman announced Thursday. Trautman said the monsignor diploma was issued by the Vatican on May 30.

"Father McGee is one of the finest priests in the diocese," Trautman said. "This testimony comes from all of his past assignments, especially from the people of Bradford who have displayed much affection for him."

McGee, 51, former headmaster at Bradford Central Christian High School, was accused by a former student, Ed Rodgers, of sexually assaulting Rodgers on numerous occasions in 1988-89.

Rodgers filed suit in McKean County Court earlier this year, but the suit was thrown out last Friday by Judge John M. Cleland because it was not filed within the two-year time period allowed by law.
