Suit against Priest Discontinued Buffalo News October 16, 1998 A lawsuit against a Catholic priest who was accused of sexually abusing a 12-year-old boy at a Lockport parish several years ago has been discontinued, officials in the case said Thursday. Details on how the $ 2 million civil lawsuit in State Supreme Court was settled by a discontinuance order were not released by attorneys representing the boy's family or the Rev. Bernard M. Mach and the Diocese of Buffalo. Sources familiar with the case said Father Mach's deteriorating health in the past year and his inability to attend court proceedings played a role in ending the lawsuit. Father Mach, who now resides in Florida and remains on an unpaid administrative leave from the diocese, suffered a stroke, officials in the case said. |
