Priest going to prison for probation violation

A Catholic priest has been sentenced in Steuben County Court to one to three years in prison for violating probation orders prohibiting him from having contact with children.

The Rev. Eugene Emo, 64, had been sentenced in May 1997 to six months in Steuben County Jail and five years probation after pleading guilty to molesting a 30-year-old disabled man at Emo's Cohocton home.

In August, Emo was charged with violating terms of his probation for having contact with a 16-year-old whom Emo said was his employee.

Emo was parish priest at St. Januarius Church in Naples, Ontario County, from 1987 to 1993, when he resigned amid allegations of sexual improprieties.
