Priest Case Forwarded to County Attorney

Union Leader (Manchester NH)
May 16, 2002

Merrimack police have completed their investigation of the Rev. Edward Richard and forwarded the case to the Hillsborough County Attorney's office.

The former Merrimack pastor was removed from active ministry last month after prosecutors received an allegation he sexually abused a minor in the 1980s.

Richard was placed on administrative leave as pastor of St. Patrick Church in Pelham while authorities investigate the accusation.

Merrimack Police Chief Joseph Devine this week said two to three men alleged Richard molested them as boys while the priest served at Our Lady of Mercy parish in Merrimack. The alleged incidents occurred on out-of-town trips, he said.

Hillsborough County Attorney Peter McDonough would not comment on the allegations, but said his office is reviewing the case to determine if it can be prosecuted.
