  Parish Removes Ex-Miami Priest

(AP) -- A Roman Catholic priest named in a sexual abuse lawsuit in Miami has been removed from his post while the allegations are investigated, the church's pastor told parishioners Saturday.

In the lawsuit, the Rev. Christopher Eggleton was accused of sexual abuse between 1990 and 1991 while serving in the Archdiocese of Miami, pastor Bob Perry said.

Perry read a written statement to parishioners at the end of 4 p.m. Mass.

"Father Chris strongly denies these allegations," Perry said.

Eggleton has served at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Hammond for two years. He was one of four priests at the Catholic church.

"Both our diocesan policy and Dominican policies require that in this kind of situation, whether the allegations are true or false, the priest will do no public ministry until the matter is resolved," Perry said.

In the meantime, Eggleton would be transferred to another Dominican community, Perry said.

Perry declined to give further details.
