Regarding Fr. Peter Van Der Linden

Archdiocesan Communications
October 22, 2002

Fr. Peter Van der Linden was placed on a leave of absence and restricted from any public ministry in the Archdiocese of Detroit on November 23, 1993. That action was taken following a serious and substantive allegation of sexual misconduct dating back to the early years of his ministry.

Information regarding this matter was turned over to civil authorities in May of this year as part of the voluntary agreement between the archdiocese and county prosecutors.

When Fr. Van der Linden was placed on the leave of absence, he did not have an assignment from the Archdiocese of Detroit and no public release of this information was made at that time. Fr. Van der Linden, 73, has not served the archdiocese in any capacity since November of 1993.
