(New Haven-AP Nov. 14, 2003 7:00 AM) _ The Archdiocese of Hartford is being sued by a former Guilford man for alleged sexual abuse by a now-dead priest.

George Tifft claims the Reverend Joseph Buckley befriended him, gave him alcohol and then sexually assaulted him in Guilford in 1971.

The lawsuit seeks money damages and claims the archdiocese is liable for failing to adequately supervise Buckley and his interaction with children.

A lawyer for the archdiocese says they will be looking into the allegations.

Buckley had worked at St. Mary's parish in Newington, but retired in 1970. He was retired for five years before his death at the age of 72.
