Sex Abuse Case Allowed to Proceed

Telegraph Herald [Dubuque IA]
July 22, 2006

A Barron County judge said the state of Wisconsin can proceed with its criminal sexual abuse case against Dale Soppe, of Fairfield, Iowa.

Soppe, a former Western Dubuque School District teacher, is facing felony charges of indecent behavior with a child.

Richard Hinde reported that Soppe, his former teacher and basketball coach, molested him numerous times when he was in seventh grade.

The Wisconsin charge stems from Soppe allegedly sexually assaulting Hinde after the Hinde family moved to Wisconsin in 1969. Criminal charges were able to be brought because Soppe left Wisconsin, which effectively stopped the clock on the criminal statute of limitations.

Hinde, now 50, lives in Hillsdale.

Soppe's arraignment has been scheduled for 10 a.m. Aug. 30 in Barron County District Court.

It is not the policy of the TH to publish the names of claimants involved in a sexual abuse charge. Hinde, however, gave the TH permission to name him.
