St. Mary's Seminary and University Class Notes

Summer, 2007

Before Christmas we had word that Fr. Robert F. Hopkins, SCC'43 and SMS'48 (Baltimore), had died in a nursing home in Cumberland on December 13, 2006. A native of Akron, OH, he grew up in Philadelphia and became a seminarian for the Baltimore archdiocese. Archbishop Keough ordained him in the first class after his transfer from Providence. The new priest began his work as a assistant at St. Mary's in Cumberland. Then he worked at St. Mildred's and St. Adrian's in the Dundalk area that developed into Our Lady of Hope. After serving as administrator of the new parish, he was pastor of St. Jerome's in Baltimore and later of St. Mary's in Lonaconing. Health reasons led to his assignment as associate at St. Patrick's in Cumberland. He retired in 1995 to assist his aged mother. When she died, her funeral Mass was the last Mass he was able to offer. After his death in the nursing home, he was buried from St. Mary's in Cumberland.
