Father Kurz serves as Judicial Vicar for the Diocesan Tribunal and is in residence and assists at St. Rita Parish in Rockford.


He came to the Rockford Diocese from the Diocese of Pueblo, Colo., in 1997 to work in the Tribunal and was appointed Adjutant Judicial Vicar. He was incardinated to the Diocese of Rockford in 1998.

Father Kurz completed his seminary studies at Aquinas Institute in Dubuque, and was ordained for the Diocese of Pueblo in 1975. He served as an associate in parishes there for eight years and was involved in campus ministry, Marriage Encounter and a parish renewal program. He served in the Pueblo Tribunal from 1983-1985, becoming pastor of St. Anne Parish in 1984. He studied in Rome, receiving his J.C.L. at the Angelicum, graduating summa cum laude in June, 1987.

In 1994, he was loaned to the Archdiocese of Chicago to work as a judge in that Tribunal, then was asked to serve as a judge instructor in the Rockford Tribunal.
