  Regarding Fr. Ron Williams

Archdiocese of Detroit

Effective September 8th, Fr. Ron Williams, 50, has been placed on a temporary administrative leave of absence from his position as pastor of St. Mary's of Redford Parish in Detroit. This action is taken pending further inquiry into a substantive allegation of sexual abuse of a minor dating back to the early years of his ministry. An allegation was received by the Archdiocese of Detroit in late spring. Following the provisions of the voluntary agreement with civil authorities, the archdiocese referred the complaint to the county prosecutor for investigation. The authorities have now completed that review and informed the archdiocese of their findings, which include further information, as well as a determination that the matter is beyond the statute of limitations. Fr. Williams has been cooperating fully in this process. Fr. Jay Samonie, a senior (retired) priest, will become temporary administrator of the parish and receive assistance from Fr. Bill Lunnon, currently in residence at the parish.
