JULIAN RAYMOND HARTIG

Born: June 8, 1900 - Chicago, IL Died: October 14, 1987 - Albuquerque, NM Father Julian was professed in 1919 and ordained in 1926. His first assignment was as assistant pastor in Beeville, TX, and then in Higginsville, MO. From 1929 to 1936 he was in China, serving the local missions in the Hupeh area. Upon his return to the United States he was made pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Wichita, KS, for one year. Then followed a series of assignments as pastor or assistant in Clovis, Roswell, Peña Blanca and Gallup, NM. From 1951 to 1954 he was pastor of St. Joseph, Cerillos, NM, and for 4 years was assistant pastor at St. Boniface, Louisville. He was granted an indult by the General Definitorium to live outside a religious house for reasons of poor health and died at age 87 after 68 years as a friar.
