MSGR. DON C. GRASS CHESTERTON, IN Msgr. Don Grass, of Chesterton, IN, passed away on Friday, July 2, 2010 at VNA Hospice, Valparaiso, IN. Msgr. is survived by siblings: Arthur (Genevieve) Grass of Hammond, Marge Martich of CA, and James Grass of Chesterton; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Grass of NC; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his twin brother and sister-in-law, Dean (Judy) Grass; brother, Robert Grass; and parents: Henry and Sybilla Grass. Msgr. Grass was Pastor at the following churches: St. Mary of the Lake in Miller, Queen of All Saints in Michigan City, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Valparaiso, Holy Angels Cathedral in Gary, Holy Name in Cedar Lake and St Mary in Crown Point. He was born in Sauk City, WI and moved to Whiting where he attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and then attended Our Lady of the Lake Seminary at Wawasee, IN. Msgr. also attended St. Mienrads Seminary and graduated from North American College in Rome. In his retirement Msgr. Grass enjoyed fishing along with his longtime friends, Fr. Heeg and the late Fr. Amling. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at 1:00 PM DIRECTLY at St. Mary Catholic Church, 321 E. Joliet St., Crown Point, IN, principal celebrant Fr. Lawrence Heeg officiating. Interment will be at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville. Msgr. Grass will lie in state on Monday, July 5, 2010 from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at St. Mary Catholic Church. Memorials in Msgr. Grass's name may be given to St. Mary Catholic Community School. Geisen Funeral Home, Crown Point, is in charge of arrangements.
