Fr. Donald Raymond Pousson

BREAUX BRIDGE - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for Father Donald Raymond Pousson, 75, who passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2013 at Consolata Nursing Home in New Iberia.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Tuesday, and continue on Wednesday at 7 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., at Pellerin Funeral Home in Breaux Bridge.

A rosary will be prayed by Fr. Paul LaFleur, Pastor of St. Bernard Catholic Church, at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Most Reverend Michael Jarrell, Bishop of the Diocese of Lafayette, will officiate at the Funeral Mass.

Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Cecilia.

Donald and Ronald Pousson were born to Eric and Alice Doucet Pousson on January 18, 1938. Their mother died of childbirth complications while giving birth to them and their father passed away 40 years later.

The twins went to school in Egan. Donald earned the American Farmer Award with FFA. Upon graduation, Donald went to S.L.I. (now U.L. of Lafayette) and later entered St. Mary Seminary in Kentucky. He completed seminary studies at St. John's Seminary in Arkansas. He was ordained a Priest for the Diocese of Lafayette on June 4, 1966. 

He served the Catholics of Patterson, Breaux Bridge, Cecilia, St. Jules and St. Leo Seton in Lafayette, and the parishes in Midland, Mermentau, Morse, Estherwood, and Lyons Point, before returning to Breaux Bridge.

He liked animals, friends, antiques, horticulture, family and nature. He relished his culture and heritage. He loved making pies and fruitcakes for his twin's children. At Liturgy he was a genius.

Fr. Pousson was a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

Fr. Pousson leaves behind his twin brother, Ronald C. Pousson and his wife, Ruth Stroderd Pousson; his nieces and nephews, Angela Maslowski (Jeff), Roger Pousson (Lisa), Barry Pousson, Alice Stutes (Jerry), and Bart Pousson (Tina); his aunts with whom he was raised with, Deola Daigle and Verda Fruge; 18 grandnieces and nephews; 19 great grandnieces and nephews; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, with whom he, his twin, and his father lived, Adras and Rosie Pousson; his maternal grandparents, Onezime and Julia Gatte Doucet; his parents, Eric and Alice Doucet Pousson; and his aunts and uncles whom he was raised with, Una Pousson, Maurice Pousson, Beulah Miller, Irvin Pousson, Hayes Pousson, Wallace Pousson, and Collins Pousson.

Honored to serve as his Pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearers will be members of his family and Clergy.

Diane Daigle Benoit will facilitate the grievance counseling for one year through Heart of Hospice.
