Archbishop Bernard Hebda
Roman Catholic Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis
June 24, 2016

I have authorized Father Mark Wehmann’s return to public ministry in the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis.

Father Wehmann has been on a voluntary leave of absence since December, 2013 while an investigation of 'immature behavior toward kids and adults' was conducted.  Law enforcement was notified of the concerning behavior and no charges were brought.

After the Archdiocese conducted its investigation, Father Wehmann engaged in extended professional counselling and spiritual direction.  His case was recently reviewed by the Ministerial Review Board (MRB) and the Director of Ministerial Standards and Safe Environment.  Both the MRB and Director Tim O’Malley recommended that Father Wehmann was fit for active ministry.

I agree with their recommendations and am currently working with Father Wehmann to determine the best way to reintegrate him into ministry.
