UNITED STATES -- A recently uncovered series of letters , dating back to the 1950's, show a Catholic priest implored bishops and even the Pope to stop re-assigning priests accused of sexually abusing children. The priest even went so far as to put a down payment on an island where the priests could be sent. Tom Roberts of The National Catholic Reporter tells us these letters appear to contradict the Church's stance that it wasn't aware of the seriousness of the priest sex abuse problem until the 1980s.
