Pietro Parolin is tipped to become the new Vatican Secretary of State. His potential appointment should be indicative of the path Bergoglio’s pontificate is going to take

Fifty eight year old Pietro Parolin left Rome four years ago, was ordained Archbishop by Benedict XVI and appointed Nuncio of Venezuela after spending seven years as the Vatican’s “deputy foreign affairs minister”. Rumours have just emerged that Pope Francis may have chosen him as the Vatican’s Secretary of State, making him Francis’ first appointed collaborator. Parolin would be the youngest figure “enrolled” to the position since Eugenio Pacelli.
