PHILADELPHIA – September 26, 2013 (WPVI) — A priest who once served in Philadelphia has been arrested on charges of sexually abusing an altar boy.

Robert L. Brennan, 75, is charged with rape, deviate sexual intercourse and other offenses.

Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams announced the arrest Thursday.

Williams said the alleged abuse happened between 1998 and 2001 at the Resurrection of Our Lord Church in Northeast Philadelphia when Brennan was an assistant pastor there.

According to Williams, the alleged abuse began when the victim was 11 years old and continued until he was 14. The victim told prosecutors the incidents took place in the church, in Brennan’s bedroom and in a movie theater.

Williams said the victim came forward in January 2013 and reported the incidents to officials at the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.

He said the archdiocese contacted the district attorney’s office that same day to report the allegations.
